Righto, gather round the telly and cancel your arvo plans, because Cardinals vs Raiders 2025 is shaping up to be the sort of NFL clash that makes you laugh, cry, and question your tipping choices. On one side you’ve got the Arizona Cardinals, a team that can look like a slick operation one minute and a bunch of blokes trying to put up a tent in a cyclone the next. On the other, the Las Vegas Raiders, who have mastered the art of being either terrifying or tragically hilarious, sometimes within the same drive. It’s a matchup with more plot twists than a soapie, and somehow we’re all going to watch it.
The Cardinals’ offence in 2025 is basically Kyler Murray running around like a caffeinated quokka while his receivers try to remember the route tree. When it clicks, it’s a ripper: Marvin Harrison Jr. gliding down the sideline, Trey McBride bulldozing blokes, James Conner running like he’s late for a Bunnings snag. When it doesn’t click, it’s a bloke trying to start a ute with a screwdriver and a prayer. The Raiders’ defence, led by Maxx Crosby, will be flat out like a lizard drinking, hunting Murray like he owes them money. If Arizona’s offensive line has one of those days where it resembles a screen door in a hurricane, it could be a long, painful watch. But if Murray gets cooking, the Raiders might need a serviette for the mess.
Las Vegas, meanwhile, is bringing the usual Raiders energy: equal parts swagger, confusion, and questionable penalties. Geno Smith under centre gives them a proper quarterback who can throw darts, but the Raiders have a habit of following a brilliant drive with something so baffling it makes you choke on your meat pie. Pete Carroll on the sideline will be chewing gum like it personally insulted his family, and the defence will either swarm like a bunch of seagulls on a chip or leave gaps wider than the Nullarbor. If the Cardinals can avoid turnovers and stop shooting themselves in the foot, they’ve got a real chance. If they can’t, the Raiders will happily accept the freebies and act like they planned it all along.
Special teams will probably decide this one, because of course it will. There’ll be a missed field goal, a dodgy punt return, and at least one moment where a coach stares into the distance like he’s just realised he left the handbrake off. The Cardinals might try a trick play that works brilliantly or fails so badly it ends up on every highlight reel for a decade. The Raiders might go for it on fourth down from their own 30 because why not? It’s the Raiders.
