I have spent a fair bit of time tweaking Discord server profile pictures over the years, and I always come back to the same point: a good icon needs to be clear at a glance. When your server represents a local community, a volunteer programme, a support hub, or something related to first aid and emergency help, the avatar is often the first thing people notice in their channel list. If you are creating a space for people who want to help one another, you want a symbol that feels serious but welcoming, not something that looks like a random game skin or a noisy meme. That is where a strong emblem can help, because it gives people an easy way to recognise the space, and it also helps the server look more trustworthy on a phone screen.
This first image caught my eye because it shows how a familiar humanitarian-style logo can work as a compact community marker. I would not use a logo like this unless the server has a genuine link to that kind of work, but as a visual example it is quite useful. The round shape fits the Discord profile picture frame well, and the colours are strong enough to stand out against both dark and light themes. Personally, I favour simple designs for these spaces, because people often join from mobile devices and need to understand the purpose quickly. If you are making your own version, keep the centre clear, use a bold background, and avoid adding tiny text that disappears on smaller screens. I have learnt that the best icons are the ones that still make sense at thumbnail size, especially if your server has several channels or is part of a larger group.
The second image feels a little more direct, but I still think it is worth considering if you want a plainer look. For some volunteer groups, a very simple emblem can actually feel more honest than an overdesigned graphic. I would still resize it and test it inside Discord before deciding, though, because profile pictures get cropped quite sharply in many places. If your server has a specific purpose, such as a local first aid club, a charity drive, or a neighbourhood safety chat, you can use a clean symbol to signal trust immediately. I find it helps to compare the image at full size and at the smaller preview size; if the meaning gets lost in the preview, it is probably too busy or too thin. A good profile picture should not shout too hard, but it should be recognisable enough that returning members can find your server without hunting around the sidebar.
